John Ward was born in England.

John Ward was born in or before 1804 in Heybridge, Paglesham, Essex, England to John Ward and Ann "Hannah" (Ballard) Ward.

John Ward, son of Jno Ward & Hannah Ballard, was christened on 13 May 1804 in Heybridge.[1]

John Ward (Bachelor, residing at Paglesham) and Rebecca Bolton Grimes (Spinster, residing at Paglesham) were married on 28 Jun 1829 at St Peter's in Paglesham, Essex - the witnesses were Mary Cotton & Jeremiah Prike.[2]

John and Rebecca had nine children:

  4. William Ward (1837-1903)
  5. Amelia Ward (1839-)
  6. Emma Ward (1843-)

  9. George Ward (1852-1911)

In 1841 John Ward (age 40) lived in Canewdon, Essex with his wife "Mary" (30) and four children: Sarah (9), John (6), William (4), and Amelia (1).[3]

In 1851 John Ward (age 50, Agricultural Labourer) lived in Paglesham with his wife Rebecca (40) and four children: John (16, Agricultural Labourer), Amelia (11), Emma (7), and Ellen (1), as well as five lodgers: Thomas Anderson (25, Agricultural Labourer), George Lancaster (20, Agricultural Labourer), James Lancaster (24, Agricultural Labourer), Richard Barnard (26, Agricultural Labourer), and Thomas Auten (14, Agricultural Labourer).[4]

In 1861 John Ward (age 65, Agricultural Labourer) lived in Paglesham with his wife Rebecca (50), daughter Ellen Jane (11, Scholar), son George (9), visitor Henry Daniels (43, Agricultural Labourer), and five boarders: George Cavender (41, Agricultural Labourer), Charles Carter (27, Agricultural Labourer), John French (63, Agricultural Labourer), William Soward (36, Agricultural Labourer), and Bingamin Maley (20, Agricultural Labourer).[5]

John Ward passed away in 1868, aged 70 years - his death was registered in Rochford, Essex [the RD for Paglesham] in the last quarter of the year.[6]
