Biography
Mary (or Mercy) Ward was born on April 24, 1703, in Newton, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Edward Ward and Grace Lovering.[1]
Mercy married John Hastings on February 5, 1725/6, in Weston, Massachusetts.[2] Their children were:[3]
- Elizabeth, b. 3 Nov 1728; m. James Livermore
- Esther, b. 28 Sep 1730; m. Adino Harrington
- Edward, b. 27 Jun 1735; m. Lydia Harrington
- John, b. 18 Sep 1738; m. (1) Elizabeth (2) Esther Peirce
- Oliver, b. 9 Sep 1740; m. Elizabeth Win/Wier of Natick
- Sarah, b. 25 Oct 1742; m. Stephen Harrington
- James, b. 6 Oct 1745; m. Mary Parry of Natick
She died in 1805 at the age of 101.[4]
In her will, dated September 1, 1789, she mentions her sons, Edward Hastings, Oliver Hastings and James Hastings; her daughters, Elizabeth Livermore and "Harrington"; her deceased son, John; and her grandchildren, Moses Hall, Abner Hall, Lucy Lovewel and Burridel Pratt.[5]
