Soldier James Ward served with Bertie County Regiment, North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.
It has been said his wife was Native American. Others claim James was Native American. They did not have children. Both had children from previous marriages. Neither of James' parents were Native American.
James Ward was married to an unknown woman as evidenced by his daughter Penelope who would marry a man named Clifton. James would marry his second wife, Martha Cherry, in about 1775. Martha was around 17 years old at the time of their marriage and a year younger than her stepdaughter Penelope. Together, James and Martha would have the following children:
His will was dated 13 April 1780, proven Nov Court 1780, recorded in Book B, pages 165--169 Bertie Co NC, mentions daughters Winnie, Susanna and Penolope Clifton. Execs; William Cherry and Solomon Cherry ( brothers of Martha) witnesses: James Sowell, Jr, George Jornagan Hodum Jr, and Ekratin Jenkins . DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Susannah (Ward-2544) Wells should not have been removed as daughter. I have 24 DNA matches to her descendants. They are not big matches, but normal for that many generations. My direct DNA line is to James Jordan Ward-3501, her brother.
I have found that the James Ward who was married to Sarah Yellowbird never had children with her. Both had children from other marriages. James Ward jr. is from an earlier marriage. No primary sources have been provided to validate the claims.
This profile is questionable. Use with caution.
