William was born 10 Oct 1841 in Greene, Missouri, United States. He was the son of William Thompson Ward and Louisa Jane Apperson.

William maried Savina Clay Sep 22, 1870.

Children: Edward Levi Ward (1871 - 1919), Frederick Elton Ward (1873 - 1955), Lucy J Ward (1878 - 1918), and William Elmer Ward (1883 - 1960)

He died 27 Dec 1912 in Springfield, Greene, Missouri, United States and was buried in Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield, Greene, Missouri, United States, Plot: Block 73 Lot Row 3 Lot 27.[1][2]
