Career

He lived for a time in Abingdon, Virginia.[7]

A newspaper account published 12 February 1904 said:

Pearlsburg Virginian: The revivial conducted at this place by Rev. J. B. Ward was the most successful meeting that was ever held at Narrows. The Holy Ghost came in all of its convicting power and sinners fell at the altar, repending of their sins and crying for mercy, and were pardoned by the grace of a most merciful God. There were about forty-five new members to the Methodist church and about fifteen added to the Christian church. There were about one hundred and twenty-five conversions in all.[8]

In 1912, Rev. Ward moved to Bluefield, West Virginia, as presiding elder of the Bluefield District.[9] His term expired in 1916.[10]

In 1916, Rev. Ward went from Bluefield to the Chattanooga district.[11]

In a "Memoir" published by the Holston Conference in 1928, S. D. Long said,

Brother Ward was not an ordinary man. He began his ministry after reaching middle life. The clear conviction as to his conversion and that God had called him to preach, gave to his ministry an evangelistic fervor which resulted in the conviction and conversion of sinners wherever he preached.[3]
