Henry Singleton Ward was the 4th of 5 children born to Moorside farmer Henry Ward and wife Maria Garner. In 1871 he was a lodger with a family in Preston, a University town and was employed as a druggist assistant. By 1881 he was married to Margaret Ellen Hunter Parkinson and was a Chemist, Dentist and Druggist at 73 Ppoulton Street in Kirkham. Henry' home was above the chemist shop on the main street of Kirkham where he lived for many years.Margaret died in 1882 and Henry married again in 1887 to Mary Hutchinson from Great Eccleston, daughter of vetinary Surgeon, Richard Hutchinson. Mary and Henry had 3 chidren, Henry Hutchinson b 1888, Frank Fowler b 1890 and Lily b 1891. Sadly Mary passed away soon after Lily's birth leaving Henry with the 3 children. Henry continued at the chemist shop with Frank and Lily, Henry being cared for by Henry's sisters and brothers on the farm where he grew up. At the age of 64, Henry married for the third time to Mary Ellen Fairclough nee Redman, a farmers widow of Fylde, Lancashire. Together they travelled to Australia to visit Henry's 3 children who had emigrated. They bought a house in Albany Western Austalia. Henry H, Henry's son was married in Albany W Aust. in 1925 and Henry Singleton died in Albany 1928. He is buried in what is now a pioneer cemetery in Albany town centre.
