Disputed Parents

The original profile has John's father as Thomas Warner, born about 1500. The Geni source claims his parents are Stevin Thomas Warner (born 1500) and Mary Unknown. Is Thomas Warner the same person as Stevin Thomas Warner?

Biography

John Warner was born about 1542. He lived in Great Waltham, Essex, England. He probably died shortly before November 9 1584, the date his will was probated. John was an ancestor of Andrew Warner, an early immigrant to New England.[1]

Birth: 1542 in Great Waltham, Essex, England
Death: 23 MAY 1584
Marriage: about 1559, to Margaret (Unknown) Warner. She died on 6 Oct 1646.[2]
Children: five daughters and four sons were living at the time his will was written.[3]
Burial: Probably Great Waltham, Essex, England[4]

Will

John Warner's will was dated 23d 5m 1584 [ 23 Jul 1584]. It was probated 9d 9m 1584 [9 Nov 1584], indicating that he probably died in late October or early November 1584. He named his wife Margaret as his executrix. His two married children, Mrs. Emmaston/Emmerston and John Jr. were not given inheritances beyond sharing in the moveables, but John Sr. included their children in his will and even had John Jr. witness the will. Therefore, it can be assumed that he was still close to his married children, who had probably already received legacies in the form of substantial gifts at the times of their marriages.

Children named in will:

  • Edward, 5 £ within 5 years of father's death,
  • Andrew, 5 £ within 6 years,
  • Thomas, barley and wheat seed, as well as continued use of the leased land for 2 years [Was Thomas married, but with no children yet, having received money at time of marriage?]
  • Margery, 6 £ 13s 4d at marriage or age 26, if unmarried,
  • Elizabeth, 3 £ at marriage or age 26,
  • Margaret, 3 £ at marriage or age 21,
  • Johan/Joan, 3 £,
  • [Mrs. Emmaston - mother of Ursula, John, and Agnes Emmaston, who were each to receive 3 shillings, 4 pence],
  • [John Jr. - father of Thomas Warner, who was to receive barley seed at age 10.]

Also mentioned are Thomas Saward and Xpian [Crispian] Casse, likely creditors.

Witnesses:

Richard Pond
Thomas Blower
John Warner, Jr.

Hi David

I'm trying to sort out the duplicates in this Warner family.

Do you have any sources that we can look at to verify that this John's father was Steven?

Thanks

Maryann
