Eunice Warner, daughter of Benjamin and Johanna Warner, was born on 2 Aug. 1740 at Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut.[1]
Death Date and Place
A death date and place of 7 October 1803 in Watertown, Connecticut was previously listed for Eunice (Warner) Hickox. Additional research has revealed that this referred to a different woman of the same name. A Eunice Hickox did die in Watertown, Connecticut on 6 Oct 1803. Per the Hale Collection, this Eunice Hickox was aged 79 and the widow of Ambrose Hickox.[2] From vital records of Waterbury, Ambrose Hickox, son of Ebenezer, married Eunice Clark, daughter of Caleb Clark, 11 Dec 1740.[3] This marriage took place in the same year that Eunice Warner, daughter of Benjamin and Johanna (Strong) Warner was born so these are clearly different women with the same first names and married names.
Second Marriage of Eunice Warner Hickox
The Waterbury vital records show that Eunice, the widow of John Hickox, Jr, married again on 15 April 1776 to Thomas Richason.[4] The births of three additional children for Eunice through her marriage to Thomas Richardson are also recorded in the Waterbury vital records. Thomas, Jr was born 12 Jun 1777[5], Margaret on 14 Aug 1779[6] and Eunice was born 21 December 1781.[7]
Removal from Waterbury
Thomas and Eunice Richardson were admitted as members of the First Congregational Church at Middlebury, Connecticut on 10 February 1796. [8] This same reference reports Thomas' death on 20 April 1804 and then Eunice's subsequent removal to Rutland, New York in 1808. Ada Baldwin Hickox, wife of Eunice's son David, was also admitted to the church at Middlebury on 5 May 1799 and removed to "Rutland NJ" [sic] [9]
Thomas Richardson's estate was recorded in the Middlebury, Connecticut probate records. His son, Thomas Richardson, Jr, served as the administrator. The probate record includes a land division among 4 of his heirs: his widow, Eunice, his son Thomas, and daughters, Margaret, wife of John Beecher; and Eunice, wife of Samuel Porter.[10]
Residence and Death in Rutland, New York
The Middlebury church record shows that Eunice removed to Rutland, NY in 1808. She was not enumerated as head of household in 1810, nor do the land records of Jefferson County indicate any transactions directly involving her. Her estate records also do not indicate land ownership in Jefferson County.
The probate of Eunice Richardson's estate was intiated as early as 31 January 1817 when Jonathan Smiley appraised her estate. Eunice's son, David Hickox served as the administrator. The estate account lacks a final distrubtion to heirs, but among those receiving and/or owing debts to the estate were Thomas Richardson, Samuel Porter, and John Beecher. The last two were sons-in-law, having married Eunice Richardson and Margaret Richardson, respectively.[11]

In 1810, Thomas Richardson and David Hickox are enumerated as heads of household in Rutland, Jefferson County, New York. In 1817, David Hickox served as administrator of Eunice Richardson's estate, (NY Surrogate's Court, Jefferson County, Estate Papers, Box R #37, FHL microfilm number 528,044, digital images 572-583, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89HG-DCFJ?i=571&cc=1920234&cat=316042). The appraisal was completed 31 Jan 1817 so Eunice died before that date, (image 577). Thomas Richardson is among those owing to the estate. Unfortunately, the heirs are not named.
Based on these findings, I would suggest an update to the date and place of death, as well as the addition of her second husband, Thomas Richardson and the two children their marriage produced. I am happy to provide more complete citations for the church and vital records.
