Gertrude Chandler Warner was an American author, mainly of children's stories. She was most famous for writing the original book of The Boxcar Children and for the next 18 books in the series.
She was born April 16, 1890 in Putnam, Windham, Connecticut, USA to Edgar Warner and Jane Carpenter.[1]
Never married, she lived in her parents' home for almost 40 years then moved to her grandmother's house before moving into her own house in 1962.
Gertrude died at the age of 89 on August 30, 1979 in Killingly, Windham, Connecticut and was buried in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam, Connecticut.[2][3][4]
