Biography

Following is copied from an old Cardington, Morrow County Ohio newspaper clipping, Grandpa's obituary: "Died of Dropsical complaint, January 25, 1852 at his residence in Lincoln township Morrow County, John H. Warner in the 67th year of his age. He was born in Connecticut, October 12, 1785. At the age of 23 he settled in the State of New York where he remained until the year 1834, when he moved with his family to Ohio where he has resided ever since. He bore his afflictions with faith with a well grounded hope of glorious immortality beyond the tomb. 'Fare well, dear friend, a long farewell, For we shall meet no more, Until we're raised with thee to dwell On Zion's happy shore." (Memories of Eva Aldridge)

John Robinson was unusually well educated. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh and (reputedly) attended two or three oriental colleges and spoke several languages fluently. He espoused the cause of Liberty, came to America, was commissioned as an officer in the Continental Army during our revolutionary war, and received a large grant of land in New York State for his services. After the war he married Eunice Wilcox and they had five children, four girls and a boy. It is to the third one of these girls, Julia that you owe your existence. We are also much indebted to her for the preservation of this narrative, although it was her older sister, Martha, who wrote down the stories their father related. Julia had a copy of this book and her children were quite familiar with it. Unfortunately, one of her nephews "borrowed" the book and failed to return it. The two families moved widely separate places, so the written family history was "lost" to our branch of the family. The books we now have are from the memories and research of two of Julia's grandchildren, as relate to them by tow of her children. I was told many of these stories by my mother who was also one Julia's grandchildren. The three narrators were widely separate in age and resided in three different states yet their stories cling together too closely to be ever regarded as fiction.
