MRS. M. A. HERIVEL. The death occurred last evening, of Mrs. Mary Ann Herivell, an old and respected resident of Thames, who has been over 53 years in this district. The late Mrs. Herivell, who was 86 years of age, was born at Whitstable, Kent, England, and later went to Africa, where she resided for some time. She left Africa for New Zealand 55 years ago, on the sailing vessel, Reigstag, and arrived in Auckland on Christmas Eve, 1866. She resided for some time in Onehunga, and then proceeded to the Thames, where her late husband, who predeceased her by 21 years, was engaged in mining. The late Mrs. Herivell leaves 104 descendants, four daughters, 42 grandchildren, and 58 great grandchildren. Her daughters are Mrs. R. Preece, .Mrs. S. Lewis, Mrs. J. Jenkins, and Mrs. Lyes, who are all residents of Thames. The late Mrs. Herivell had also seven sons, who predeceased her. Mrs. Herivell had been associated with the Salvation Army since its inception in Thames, thirty seven years ago, and although of late unable to take an active part in the meetings, she was always keenly interested in its progress. The interment will take place to-morrow at Shortland Cemetery. The Salvation Army will hold a funeral service in the Citadel at 2 p.m. which will be followed by an army military funeral. [3]
