Biography

Augustus Rueben Warner. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Born 1809 North Carolina, United States. [8][9]

Residence 1870 Troy, Montgomery, North Carolina, United States. [10] 1840 Montgomery, North Carolina, United States. [11] Montgomery County, North Carolina. [12]

The US Census of 1880 states that Augustus Rueben’s father was from Connecticut. It is not known if Rueben was born in North Carolina or came to NC after his birth but in 1834, he married his first wife in NC. Rueben had four children by his first wife, Amanda Lisk. William Gaston – born in 1836, James – born in 1839, [13] John A. – born in 1840 and Annaliza – born in 1845. Amanda must have died in about 1847. Records indicate that Rueben married another Lisk girl Adaline (age 19) in 1849. They had 7 more children: Francis – 1849, [14]Fanny – 1853, Charles – 1855, Sarah – 1857, Martha – 1859,[15]Lucinda – 1866, and Joseph - 1869[16] They lived in Montgomery County, NC; at various times – East Pee Dee Township, Brutons, and Troy. Rueben made his living as a tailor up until March of 1862 when he enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 55. He is listed as a private in the ranks of Company F, 44th Infantry Regiment North Carolina as of April 3, 1862.[17] One might wonder why a 55 year old tailor would enlist in the Confederate Army. It probably was related to the fact that his two sons had enlisted. They both enlisted in Company E, North Carolina 28th Infantry Regiment on 01 Aug 1861. Son James was sent home with a disability discharge on February 27, 1862. It was one week later that Rueben enlisted. Son William died of disease on February 6, 1863 while serving at White Sulphur Springs West Virginia.

By 1870, Rueben was back in Troy, Montgomery County, NC again living with his wife Adaline and 7 children ranging in age from 1 to 20 years old.[18] In 1880 he was still living in Troy with his wife Adaline and his two youngest children, Lucinda, 14 and Joseph, 11. [19] There is no record of his death.
