Biography

Margaret Warren, was born in 1409 the daughter of Sir Laurence (Lawrence) Warren of Poynton, and Margaret (Magery) Bulkeley. She married Thurstan Holand.[1]

This Thurstan de Holland was the eldest of three sons of Thurstan De Holland, who died I Henry VI (1422-3), and his wife Agnes (__?__), who had writ of dower 3 Henry VI. (1324-5), and was still living in 1439.[1]

By the summer of 1430 Thurstan de Holland had arranged to divorce his first wife Margaret, daughter of Gilbert de Aldburgham, on the grounds of consanguinity. A marriage settlement made in favour of Margaret Warren is evidence by several deeds. These deeds also prove the relationship of Thurstan to Nicholas, his uncle.[1]

Margaret and Thurstan de Holland had three children:[1]

  • Richard, who succeeded his father and died 7 February 1483.
  • Margaret, who married Nicholas Hyde of Denton
  • Elizabeth, who married John, son of Richard de Reddish

She had died by 1442 when Thurstan made a settlement in favour of his wife Matilda, daughter of Sir John Honford.[1]

She died either Denton, Lancashire, England or Brionne, Normandy, France. (Unsourced imported information.)[citation needed]

I'd think a somewhat later birth year for Margaret and Laurence's son Richard, more in line with the births of his siblings Elizabeth and Margaret. 1430 would still leave him as the oldest child, and would put his mother's age at about 21. That would require pushing Richard's marriage date to Elizabeth Southworth by some ten years, still in line with the birth years of his children.

Laurence Warren, born about 1394. He married before 1421 Margaret (or Margery) Bulkeley, daughter of Richard Bulkeley, by his wife, Margery Venables. TheY had three sons, John, Randle and Edward, and six daughters, Margery, Joan (wife of Nicholas Longford), Cecily (wife of John Davenport), Margaret (wife of Thurstan Holand), Margaret (wife of John Stafford), and Elizabeth. Sir Laurence Warren died shortly before 30 July 1444.

Thank you!

Agreed with Glenn Kittredge. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to deal with this situation?
Margaret would be 9 years old at the birth of her son. That and I have her married to another man at the same time makes this union unlikely.
