The death year is only a rough indication

Biography

Ormerod listed the following children of her first husband, which also correspond more or less with the 1580 visitation pedigree which the family made. However it is not clear if she was their mother.[1]

  • Sir John de Caryngton starts appearing in records about 1420, died before 1453. He m. isabel who was a daughter of Sir John de Beeston and a widow of Sir Robert de Aston. Their son and heir was Hamon Caryngton.
  • Nicholas de Caryngton, who apparently died without children.
  • Ralph de Caryngton, who apparently died without children. Apparently a priest.
  • William de Carynton, who had descendants.
  • Peter de Carynton, living in 1412. Apparently had no children.
  • Edward de Carynton
  • George de Carynton
  • Margaret, wife of Robert Massey of Sale. The marriage required a papal dispensation.

Ormerod and Helsby also say that she survived George and remarried to Gilbert Bexwyk. This is based on her claim for dowery in 4 Henry VI which they quote:

Gilbert de Bexwyk; and Elizabeth uxor' ejus v. John de Caryngton son and heir of George de Caryngton, knt. Dower of the Manor of Caryngton, 18 mess., 400 acres of land, 30 of mead., 100 of pasture, 100 of wood, and 200 of turbary, in Caryngton, Hattresley, Mottrum, Woley, Stopport, Kynworthey, Partynton, and Assheton.

Elizabeth apparently died before her second husband who seems to have had a second wife, Margery Mascy of Tatton.[2]

Research notes

Strangely, Copinger claimed that Margeret the DAUGHTER of Robert Massey of Sale was George's first wife and the mother of his children. The Ormerod pedigree in contrast says that the WIFE of Robert Massey was his daughter! He also claimed that Elizabeth the widow of George was a second wife aho had no heirs. Copinger is not a very reliable source. Did he simply misread Ormerod's pedigree?[3] Copinger cites no records for the first wife.

In this case we are clearly dealing with one of the real people in the Carrington family and I have been cleaning up the other parts recently to help make it easier to work on these people. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:The_Carrington_Imposture

For those who wish to work on medieval profiles please consider going through the steps to get certification.

Let me make sure I have this right:

Elizabeth was born in 1414 and she married George in 1399 fifteen years before her birth. Then she gave birth to William in 1440 fourteen years after his fathers death in 1426. This is filled with errors, but the profile cannot be edited because "pre 1500" experts have decided it is correct and can not be change by thinking people.

You're correct in that this is filled with errors (the whole family is suspect). But the reason it can't be edited is because profiles like this were created in the early wild days (2010 in this case) without reasonable sources. After seeing there were systemic problems, WikiTree folks added the "pre-1500" certification so that any new profiles and new connections were done properly. (Home-made family trees tend to be more accurate for more recent dates, plus people born after 1700 affect fewer descendants, so restrictions get less strict as you move forward in time).

Unfortunately the damage was already done in cases like this, and there's not enough people who've become pre-1500 certified who can clean them all up. I think everybody who takes a look at it will agree things here are not right. I'm thinking I should get certified so I can work on these (maybe not start on this one though... yikes).
