Biography

Marriage Elizabeth Warren Hunnicutt to John Hunnicutt. [1]

Research Notes

Elizabeth Warren is frequently given the first name of Mary in many on line trees. There is no documentation to state that she ever used the name Mary. All legal papers and her signature on her husband's will state Elizabeth.

Would one of the Project Leaders or Members please change the POB location to "Surry, Colony of Virginia" so that this profile can be found when someone searches using "LNAB-Warren" and "POB-Virginia"? You will help avoid duplicates being entered by doing that.

Thank you!

I spelled out the locations. US Southern Colonies Project guidelines include "County". See Space: US Southern Colonies Project Editing Guidance.

Cheers, Liz

Lacking action from the profile managers, I'm going to ask a Project Leader to add the project account. Thanks.

Done. Thanks Jillaine.

Profile Managers - One of the reasons for a profile having a manager is so that people know who to contact about the profile. This means managers need to be active & inactive managers removed. Please post a reply to this comment before Sunday, 16 May, if you are still active in WikiTree and would like to remain a manager of this profile. If I don't hear from you by then, I will remove you as manager (but you'll still be on the the trusted list). Thanks!

Is there continued need for profile protection?

Perhaps. Her date of death does not match this source: Mrs Jane (Stokes) King married John Hunnicutt, Hunnicutt-11 after the death of his wife, Elizabeth Warren, born circa 1655, a daughter of Thomas Warren. After September 24, 1670, Jane married thirdly to Samuel Plaw, a widower, whose first wife on February 4, 1668 was Mary (?nee). Allen Warren, a son of Thomas Warren appears as tithable in the household of Samuel Plaw, in 1679. <ref> A History And Genealogy Of The Gookin Family Of England, Ireland And America compiled by Richard N. Gookins, Salem, Oregon, 1983, available online here: https://archive.org/details/AHistoryAndGenealogyOfTheGookinFamilyOfEnglandIrelandAndAmerica/page/n51/mode/1up </ref>

If this source is correct, Elizabeth Warren had to have died before John Hunnicut, who died in 1699. I don't know if Find A Grave is accurate, either: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/88173310/elizabeth-hunnicutt

Jane, I think the marriage of Jane Stokes Plaw was to a different John Hunnicut (thre wee at least two contemporaries by that name in virginia at the time). John's 1699 will names wife Elizabeth, not Jane.

Actually, I've read the source for the supposed marriage of John Hunnicut to Jane. See https://archive.org/details/AHistoryAndGenealogyOfTheGookinFamilyOfEnglandIrelandAndAmerica/page/n51/mode/1up

I think the source has been misinterpreted. The page is about Thomas Warren, father of Elizabeth who marries John Hunnicutt, it's narrative refers to a first wife. In the list of children (including Elizabeth), there are lines between the list of children that say ... "Mar. 2d"... then "Mar. 3d". These second and third marriages refer to Thomas Warren, not to any of this children. It's a confusion derived from bad formatting on the part of the publisher.

Jane Stokes was the third wife of Thomas Warren and never married to John Hunnicut.

I don't see a source for John' Will naming Elizabeth on this profile or his. Can you point me in the right direction?

About two-thirds of the way down the page and I stand corrected: it's a probate record, not the actual will.

Still something hinky here. The Elizabeth Hunnicutt, who appeared on July 4, 1699, at Southwarke, Adm'ix of John Hunnicutt may have been a daughter or even a daughter-in-law.

Elizabeth Warren's Find A Grave memorial indicates that she died in March, 1699. I have reservations to the correctness of the memorial, since there are no sources, here, either: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/88173310/elizabeth-hunnicutt

I also don't trust Find-a-Grave as a source unless there's a photo of a *contemporaneous* gravestone with her death date on it. Janne, there's also this:

(D.&W. 1693-1709, p. 173), Surry Co., VA Court Records; page 389

John Hunnicutt, who has married Elizabeth Warren, dau of Mr. Thomas Warren, deceased, has received of Mr. Mathias Marriott his due portion of the estate belonging to ye said Elizabeth as it was given by Mrs. Jane Warren, and to acknowledge unto sd Marriott for the same. 20 Mar 1670. Teste Geo Watkin.

Note that *Jane* was then wife or at least heir of Thomas Warren. The implication is that Jane was Thomas Warren's widow at the time Thomas died.

This Elizabeth the daughter of Thomas Warren was in the past confused with many other Elizabeth's who were not the daughter of Thomas Warren. It took a lot of work to sort them. One was recently added as a daughter of Thomas Warren who was not his daughter. I would like to see her profile remain protected because of the high amount of misinformation involved regarding her parentage and her marriage to John Hunnicutt and her children. For example Jane Stokes was never married to any Hunnicutt. There was at one time a very detailed explanation of the situation with Jane Stokes Plaw's relationship to Thomas Warren and the difference between she and Thomas Warren's wife Jane Allen King. But another member edited that info out. The info in the comment section provided by Janne Gorman is incorrect. If added to this profile it would be a big mess to fix. The Elizabeth Plaw was daughter of Jane Stokes Plaw and Samuel Plaw. That Elisabeth married Thomas Warren Jr. It is very complicated as far as relationship with these people go. It is not something that can be Google and shaped on a profile. I spent hours a day for 2 years sorting the wives and children of Thomas Warren. And the different Hunnicutt men. Elisabeth Warren Hunnicutt did not die before John, she executed his will. This is all of the top of my head right now. But edits to this profile should be seriously researched before edits are made. Thanks.

Yes. Please. The comments listed below are a perfect example of why. RE: Jane Stokes was not ever married to John Hunnicutt or any other male Hunnicutt. Elisabeth Warren Hunnicutt was alive after John Hunnicutt, she excuted his will. Jane Stokes Plaw is the mother of Elizabeth Plaw who married Thomas Warren Jr. Son of Thomas Warren sr. Jane Stokes Plaw, wife of Samuel Plaw is not the same woman as Jane Allen King who married Thomas Warren sr.

These group of relationship is very complicated and requires serious research before editing. There once was an indepth explanation of these relationship with sources but that was edited away. Samuel Plaw was not married to Jane Allen King. Jane Stokes and Jane Allen are 2 different women. Thomas Warren Jr. Married Elizabeth Plaw. This was all at one time explained and sourced on profiles. These profile get heavy attention and face edits with misinformation all the time. Protection to keep parents and children from editing would be appreciated. Thanks Julliane

Warren-14115 and Warren-1794 appear to represent the same person because: Same woman please merge. Elisabeth Warren Hunnicutt's first name was not Mary. All legal documents use only ELisabeth

Elizabeth seems to have been detached from her family on GEDCOM export or import. Can you find who she should be connected to, or if not, can she be merged into some other Elizabeth Warren?

Warren-2056 and Warren-6889 appear to represent the same person because: These represent the the daughter of Thomas Warren and Elizabeth Spencer

I doubt that Warren -4009 is actually of the patronage listed, and is not a sibbling of Elizabeth Warren Hunnicutt. Nor do I believe do I believe the Elizabeth Warren Walker is a sibbling. She is most likely confussed with her aunt and I do think she has been has confused with the wife of William Warren.
