Biography

Lawrence or Laurence Warren, Esquire, was the eldest son of Sir John Warren, of Poynton and Stockport in Cheshire, and his first wife, Eleanor Gerard.[1] His birth date is unknown and there is some conflicting information about when it might have taken place.

In the but he was still under 18 years of age, on July 1494 when his marriage settlement was signed, as it contains a clause that if Laurence died before consummation, then another son was to marry her[2] which would place his birth in about 1476 or probably later.

First marriage and children

His first wife was Margaret, daughter of Sir Piers (or Perkin) Legh, of Lyme in Cheshire[2] They had 14 children (order as given in Watson):

  1. Cecily Warren, married ... Coleshull;
  2. Mabil, married Roger Beke, sergeant at arms;
  3. Sir Edward Warren, succeeded his father;
  4. Helen (or Elen), married Roger Downes, of Shrigley (or Worth) in Cheshire;
  5. Margaret, married Robert Hyde, of Norbury;
  6. Dorothy, married 1) ... Newton; 2) Hugh Davenport, Deputy steward of Macclesfield, second son of Thomas Davenport, of Henbury;
  7. Ranulph, married twice, and had issue, and buried 11 August 1562 at Prestbury;
  8. Ann, married George Kighley, of Kighley in Yorkshire, and Inskip in Lancashire;
  9. Catharine, married Nicholas Bredbury or Bradbury, of Ollerset in Derbyshire;
  10. Jane, married George Chaderton;
  11. Isabel;
  12. Laurence;
  13. George;
  14. Edward (II)

When his wife Margaret died is unclear but she obviously died before her husband as he married again.

Second marriage

Laurence Warren, married secondly Sibil (family name unknown), widow of William Honford, of Honford. This marriage was without issue.[2]

Death and Burial

Laurence Warren died on 18 September 1530. In his will, dated 18 November 1529, he requested that he be buried in the Parish church of Stopford (Stockport?).[2]

Warren-10947 and Warren-912 appear to represent the same person because: Basically the same name (Laurence or Lawrence), wife's name is also the same.

Is the death date correct? If so, did she live a hundred + years? I'm just trying to narrow down some possible duplicates.

Thanks!
