Waters-1708 and Waters-1707 appear to represent the same person because: You manage both. You need to check for duplication within the GEDCOM file you downloaded 6/22/2013. If you have a duplicate entry, it's a no brainer to merge these two. If there were two distinct John Waters in your tree, reject this merge and add data to each that this will not come up in future. I've seen 4 Williams in one family with only 6 years between them. The family wanted to use the name William but couldn't keep one alive more than a year.
