Mary Ann was born about 1833. Her last name has been read as Waters, Walters and Walton. The clerical marriage record, very faded, reads as Walters. [1]
She married Daniel P. Slaton, many of whose descendants show in records with spelling of Slayton.
She appears to have produced more than a dozen issue: William Benjamin, Martin H, Daniel W, [2] John Thomas, James jackson, Sarah L., Telemachus aka Clem or Cleve M, Rachel Ann, Margaret V, an unnamed female, George Washington, [3] Seth and Bud Slayton, this last name as appears in census, certainly a nickname. [4]
She appears to be living with her son James J. Slayton in 1900, [5] when she is reported with 13 born, 9 living issue; and with the son in 1910, [6]
She passed away in 1921, and buried with the name Waters on her stone, not a primary source. [7]
Research Notes
A death cert for a 63-year-old James Slaton in 1931 Oglethorpe County GA, gives parents as Daniel Slaton and Mary Looney. [8] The name Looney appears to be an informant mistake.
