Her father, William Watkins,[2] was born in Tennessee.[1] Her mother, Surellder Hannah,[2] was born in Virginia.[1]
Rachel married Elmer E. Renshaw in 1880 and by 1900 they had had nine children (six living). Their six living children were all were born in Illinois and still living at home at the time of the 1900 census:[1]
By the 1910 census, Rachel had had two more children (still only six living),[3] been widowed[4] and remarried.[2]
Rachel's second husband was Thomas T. Walker, son of George and Henrietta Walker. Thomas was 27 when they married.[2] They were enumerated by the 1910 census for Pope County with five of Rachel's daughters: Ivy V. (23), Myrtle F. (20), Grace A. (18), Minnie A. (15), and Opal B. (10). They had been married for 3 years.[3]

The license for her second marriage was issued on 27 December 1906, but they married on 12 January 1907 (the date of return), in Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois (according to information in the "Register of Marriages").[2] As of 22 June 2023, the datafield shows they married in Golconda, Illinois.
