Biography

DOB: 13 Jul 1837/ 13 July 1847 ?

Married Maria F Davis 1858-04-04

Columbus is recorded in the tombstone inscriptions at St. James Protestant Episcopal church. "My Lady's Manor" in Monkton, Maryland, next to his wife Sarah Elizabeth Delcamp, row 15, number 09.

Columbus was the first in the Watkins line to depart Maryland. Apparently he went to Illinois between 1850-1857, possibly to live with his uncle, Independent Slade (his mother's brother). At any rate he married Maria Davis in April of 1857 and John Calvin was born in 1858 in Maryland. Columbus apparently went back to Illinois after the Civil War and George Ausby was born there in 1865. Maria Davis died in 1867 and Columbus returned to Maryland, He married Sallie DeCamp (DelCamp?) in 1873 and lived the rest of his life in Marland.

Judging by the tax records and census returns Columbus was never a wealthy man. His three sons: John, Morris, and George Were still living with him in 1880. All three had left for Nebraska by 1900.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Columbus:

Watkins-2343 and Watkins-7090 appear to represent the same person because: The Columbus Watkins that Justin Watkins has on his tree is the same Columbus Watkins that I have in my tree.
