Daniel Watkins wrote his will on 23 May 1800 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. In it he leaves all his cattle, horses and household items to "Elizabeth Watkins my dearly beloved wife..." His land he leaves to be divided equally between his two sons Evin and Daniel when they come of age, to be in possession of Elizabeth until then. Elizabeth Watkins is named executrix; witnessed by Patrick Sullivan and Mary Watkins (probably sister-in-law, wife of William Watkins).
Presented in Rutherford County Court for probate at the July 1800 Session. At the court hearing the witnesses Patrick Sullivan and Mary Watkins testified they heard Daniel Watkins state his wishes and that they be written down. When that had been done by Wm Watkins, "... he soon after died -- to wit within less than two hours -- but was prevented from signing by his death."[2]
