William Watkins is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

William Walter Watkins was born in Florida about 1841 in the Florida Territory. He was the son of Mary Lowe Watkins Harris Lowe, daughter of Benjamin Lowe.

He married Amelia Roberts and the couple moved with her parents to Brunswick, Georgia and spent the rest of his life there.

The couple lost two infant sons - Walter Sumner and Joseph Eugene Watkins - in 1862 and 1869 respectively. They were buried in the family plot at Oak Grove Cemetery, Brunswick. They had a son Marcus Watkins, born 1871 in Brunswick, who died in Jacksonville, Florida in 1915.

William Walter Watkins died 8 January 1885, aged 48 years, at Brunswick, Georgia.

DEATH OF W.W. WATKINS

Mr. W.W. Watkins, of this city, died on Thursday last, after a protracted illness. He has been in declining health for months past. Mr. Watkins has been identified with this city for a number of years. He was for a long time a member of the City Council, and at the time of his death was a member of the Board of Commissioners of Pilotage. He leaves a wife and one son.
