A personal story of him was given to me, by the son of Babe Rose from Old Starfield, Clinton County, Missouri. Mr. Rose's father, Babe was my grandfather James Riley 'Rile' Watkins' best friend who also was a neighbor. Mr. Rose told me that James Duncan was much smaller than his son, Rile who was nearer to six feet. However, tho' J.D. was shorter he was very strong and could 'carry' anything once he got it on his shoulders. Rile was their only son and tended to be a bit spoiled by his parents. These stories were shared in the fall of 1980.
