Lula Vianna Watkins was born December 24, 1875 in Georgia. She married Ira Ebenezer “Eben” Watkins on June 13, 1889 in Jefferson County, Georgia at the age of 13. Eben was 9 years older and worked as a sawyer. They had 11 children in 25 years, nine of which survived into adulthood. Her first child Mamie Florence was born September 13, 1891 in Wadley, Georgia when Lula was 15. In 1921, Eben and Lula moved to Lakeland, Polk County, Florida with their five youngest children and their oldest daughter Mamie and her family. Eben passed away a year later at the age of 56. Lula died on June 17, 1931. She was 55 years old. She was buried next to Eben at Roselawn cemetery in Lakeland, Florida. Mamie was the executrix for her mothers will dated June 18, 1931. Upon her mother’s death, Mamie’s two youngest sisters Gladys and Joannie -being the same age as her own children - 17 and 14 respectively, went to live with Mamie and Warren and their family.
