John H Watkins was born on 14 Mar 1879 in Breathitt, Kentucky, United States, son of Lewis Watkins (1840 - 1918) and Mary Ann (Salyer) Watkins (1851 - 1915).
John married Obedience Baldridge (born in Floyd, Kentucky on 18 Jan 1885; died in Hueysville, Floyd on 24 Jan 1947), daughter of Robert Baldridge and Mary Jane Prater.[1] His father's second marriage was to her mother.
The couple had four children.
John died on 14 Jan 1909 in Breathitt County, Kentucky in a logging accident aged 29.[2]
