Clara Watson was born in October 1870 in Deerfield, Warren, Pennsylvania to James Watson and Mary Adaline Wareham. She had 12 brothers and sisters.

In about 1878, the Watson family moved to Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York, where Clara grew up. [1]

In 1900, at the age of 30, Clara lived with her retired parents and five siblings in her parents' home. [2]

In 1910, Clara lived with her brothers, George and Charles, and widowed brother-in-law, Augustus Shields. All three of the men were employed making knives in a cutlery factory. [3]

In 1925, Clara lived in Little Valley. [4] By 1930, Clara, age 59, was a patient at the Gowanda State Homeopathic Hospital in Collins, Erie, New York. As reported in the 1930 United States Census, the institution was a state hospital for the insane, and Clara was one of the inmates. [5]

Clara died in December 1943 of pneumonia at Gowanda State Hospital and was buried in Little Valley Rural Cemetery, Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York. [6]
