Biography

John Watson was born at Princeton, Massachusetts on April 21, 1798, son of |Jacob Wheeler Watson]] /John sic and and Lydia Whitteker. [1]

He married Harriet Estabrook at Holden, Massachusetts on April 2, 1822. [2] [3] Harriett was born on June 20, 1800, daughter of Jonathan and Eunice (Goodale) Estabrook. [4] [3]

Among those heirs signing an agreement to the division of her father Jonathan Estabrook's estate, on November 13, 1830, were John Watson and Harriet Watson. They were to receive $523.09 from brother John Estabrook as their share. [5]

John died at Holden of typhus fever on September 21, 1847, aged 49 years 5 months. [3] [6]

His widow Harriet was granted administration of his estate, as John died intestate. Widow Harriet, along with Jacob W. Watson of Princeton and Charles Chaffin posted bond in the amount of $10,000.00. [6]

Her husband was found to be insolvent and in December, 1847, the court granted her $650.00 as a reasonable allowance. [6]

On January 1, 1848, Harriet petitioned to sell her husband's real estate in order to settle his debts. Those also notified On February 2, 1848 were:

  • Eli Hubbard and Sarah Hubbard
  • C. G. Parker and Mary Parker
  • Charles Fisher, guardian to William, John, Charles and Jacob Watson and Lydia and Sarah Fisher [6]

On February 2, 1848, Charles Fisher was appointed guardian to the sons of John Watson deceased being:

  • John and William Watson, minors above the age of 14
  • Jacob and Charles Watson, minors under age 14

Harriet Watson gave her assent; bond in the amount of $2000.00 was posted with Charles Fisher, Eli Hubbard and Charles G. Parker as surety. [7]

On March 26, 1850, John Watson, son of John Watson deceased, minor over age 14, chose William Watson of Holden as his guardian. On the same date, William Watson was appointed guardian to John, Charles and Jacob Watson with Harriet Watson assenting. Eli Hubbard and Charles Fisher were sureties. [7]

In 1850, Harriet was living in Worcester with daughter Mary and her husband Charles Parker. [8]

  3. Mary A. born April 15 1831; died on May 8, 1912[11]; married Charles G. Parker [6] , of Oakham, at the age of 17, intention filed at Holden on March 1, 1847 [3]; married at West Boylston, Massachusetts on March 27, 1847. [12]
  4. William born before 1834 [6]; ?about 1828; married Joanna Curtis on August 15, 1853 at Millbury. [13] Removed to Illinois.
  5. John born before 1834 [6]; about 1833; married Emily E. Joslin on October 19, 1856. [14]. Removed to Illinois. [15]
  6. Charles [6]; born at West Boylson on May 9,1837 [16]: died at Oxford on June 13,1859, aged 22[17] ; married Clarissa S. Wetherell on November 25, 1857 at Oxford, Massachusetts. [18]
  7. Jacob born after 1834 [6]; about 1840, living in Illinois with brother John in 1860. [15]
