From the History of Bucks County, W.W.H. Davis, p.136:
The first American ancestors of the subject of this sketch were early settlers in Chesterfield township, Burlington county, New Jersey. Mathew Watson and Anne Mauleverer, his wife, migrated form Scarborough, in Yorkshire, England, about 1682, and settled in Chesterfield. They were members of Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of Friends. Mathew's occupation is given as chemist. He purchased in 1683 of Thomas Hutchinson, late of Beverly, in Yorkshire, a one-twelfth share in the province of West Jersey, and appears to have been a man of wealth and education. He died in Chesterfield, 7 mo. 13, 1703. and his wife Anne died there 11 mo. 16, 1721. Their children were: Mathew, Jr., born at Burlington, 10 mo. 2, 1682; and Marmaduke, born 8 mo. 13, 1685. Mathew seems to have been engaged in a shipping business, as on 3 mo. 27, 1724, he takes a certificate from Chesterfield Meeting to "transport himself to other parts on account of trading."
From Descendants of Matthew Watson:
Matthew Watson of Scarborough, Yorkshire, and Anne Mauliverer of the same parish were married 7 September 1681 by Friends ceremony there. Anne (Pierson) Mauliverer was then widow of Edmund Mauliverer of Ayton, near Scarborough, whom she, a resident of Monthorpe, had married 1 May 1676 at Kirby Grinsdale, and who was buried 28 November 1679. Their daughter Anne Mauliverer, born 26 April 1678, emigrated with her mother and stepfather Matthew Watson to Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, and was married at their house by Friends ceremony 26 May 1696 to John Abbott. [See Note 3.] By deed 21 July 1683 Thomas Hutchinson, late of Beverly, County of York, England, yeoman, conveyed to Mathew Watson, late of Scarborough, said County, chemist, one twelfth of a share of proprietorship in West Jersey.4 Matthew Watson died in Chesterfield Township 13 September 1703. His estate was not probated, suggesting that he transferred his real estate to his sons during his lifetime. His widow Anne died 16 January 1721/22
Mathew Watson died and was buried at the Friends burying place in Burlington, New Jersey the 13th day of the 7th month, 1703 [O.S.]
