Jonathan Watson was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in about 1718. He was a Barrister-at-Law at Middle Temple in London. He married Elizabeth BULLOCK in 1747 and they had several children, including Jonathan WATSON BULLOCK.
After his wife Elizabeth died in 1763, Jonathan took his children to America and settled at Highgate House, Gloucester County, Virginia, an estate of 2,500 acres left to him by his father. In 1775 he was offered command of a Confederate company, but he refused. He had to leave the country with his family and sold his estate for half its value. He died at Ringshall, Suffolk in 1803.
