Sue Ellen Kromm, 93, of Colfax, Wash., passed away Aug. 15, 2014, at The Courtyard at Colfax. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the First Baptist Church of Colfax. Vault interment will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax and one hour prior to service time at the church.
Sue Ellen was born Ellen Louise in 1920 in Palouse, Wash., the fourth daughter of Charles and Ivy (Dykes) Watson. She spent her early years in Palouse and Pullman and graduated from Fife High School near Tacoma, Wash., where she lived with a sister for a year. She attended Washington State College, now Washington State University, for her pre-nursing courses and then went on to the St. Ignatius School of Nursing, graduating in 1943. She and Elmer "Whitey" Kromm were married that same year and made their home in Colfax. She was very active in all phases of nursing for more than 45 years. The nursing profession and the raising of her six sons were her whole life. She and Whitey were married for 43 years when he passed away in 1998.
Sue enjoyed people, old and young. She loved canning fruit and vegetables, quilting and traveling. She was a member of the Christian faith and belonged to several nursing organizations. She is survived by her six sons and their spouses, Mike Kromm of George, Wash., Sam Kromm of Snoqualmie, Wash., Bob Kromm of Lynnwood, Wash., John Kromm of Colfax, Don Kromm of Spokane, Wash., and Ben Kromm of Pullman; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two surviving sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three sisters.
