Note H110Preston Watson served his country in World War II. He later was a football coach in Floydada, Texas. He went on to become a Principal in one of the high schools where after his death they renamed the high school football stadium after him.
His Obituary in the Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon Newspaper on Thursday, Feb. 6, 1992 said:
"Funeral services for Preston Watson, 75, of Floydada will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Robin Hoover, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home.
Mr. Watson died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1992, at his home.
Born Aug. 18, 1916 in San Saba, Texas, he came to Floyd County in 1950 from Archer City, Texas. He married Lavern Hunt in 1941 in San Saba.
He was a former football coach and school principal in Floydada.
He had attended Daniel Baker College and Texas A&M University. He served with the U.S. Armed Forces in World War II and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lavern; one son, Dicky Watson of Wylie, Texas; two sisters, Madge Maddox and Zola Ward Trail, both of Denison, Texas; two brothers, Wilbern Watson of Beaumont and Jack Watson of Abilene; and two grandchildren."
