From the 1851, 1861, and 1871 censuses it indicates that Elizabeth
was from Stone, Staffordshire. However, film #435858 shows two
Elizabeths that fit these particulars. The parents of Elizabeth from
Hilderstone, Stone, Staffordshire were Thomas and Jane. She was
christened on 12 Mar 1828. The parents of the other Elizabeth from
Stone, Staffordshire were Joseph and Mary.
Because Elizabeth indicated her ages at 24, 34, and 44 respectivel y in
the censuses this would indicate her birth between 2 Apr 1826 and 1 A pr
1827. The only Elizabeth that could fit this birth year would be the
daughter of Joseph and Mary. For this reason Joseph and Mary's lin e has
been researched as the correct line.
Elizabeth worked in a brewery in Stone, Staffordshire in1841 and w as
a Female Servant. In 1851 she was in Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire
where she was employed as a servant in a domestic setting. Although
she was not married at this time she was pregnant with her first chil d.
She appeared as the wife of John Townson, a Coachman, in the 1861
Census in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. Finally she appears as a
widow in the 1871 census in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, working as
a Laundress.
Although both John Townson and Elizabeth were in Berkhamstead at t he
same time and all the children that they have appear to be their own , no
marriage information can be found for these two individuals.
