- Derrill Douglas was challenged for many years by ill health. I’m certain his mother felt that he was most unwise in his choice to marry Carey Elizabeth Winn Pearce (born 23 Dec 1925 in For Meyers, Lee, Florida), a convert and returned missionary who became a school nurse, on 12 June 1953 in the Mesa, Arizona temple. He was too sick to even consider serving a mission. But he nonetheless became a medical doctor, served as a Seventy in his Stake, and, to everyone’s surprise, fathered a child before he died at the age of only 30 on 9 Oct 1956 in Los Angeles, CA.
