His second marriage was to Agnes Anderson Young in 1872.[3]
Alexander, Agnes, and Isabella migrated to New Zealand before the birth Alexander in 1873.
Agnes divorced Alexander in 1905 on the grounds of desertion.[4][5]
In 1912 he was charged with being "an idle and disorderly person and having no lawful means of support" - he was an aged pensioner who had left Lorne Farm (an institution for aged men) because he was unable to work. He was ordered to return to Lorne Farm while awaiting sentence and that he should not be required to work while there.[6]
He died in 1915,[7] and was buried in the Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill, on 21 Apr 1915.[8][9]
