Biography

Penelope "of the Kingdom of Ireland," was the daughter and co-heir of Thomas Viscount Wenman.[1][2]

Penelope "Wenman" was the second wife of Thomas Cave 1st Bt (abt.1622-) of Stanford in Northampton. The marriage took place in about 1652. Note: In source #2 there is a question mark beside the year of marriage so the date is not certain. Penelope was described as "of the Kingdom of Ireland."[2]

Her will date was 2 Feb 1665, and probate date 27 Mar 1666.[3]

Dame Penelope Cave was buried on 5 Feb 1666 at Stanford on Avon, Leicestershire, England [4]

Research Notes

She must have married before 1646 (or 1644 as that's when her first known child was born. Penelope[5] who died young was born in 1644 - this could be an error). Thomas, son of Sr Thomas and Dame Penelope, was born on 18 April 1646 and baptised in Stanford on Avon, Leicestershire, England. [6]

Note: In source #2 there is a question mark beside the year of marriage, 1652, so 1652 is an uncertain date. It is probable that they married earlier, especially if their first child was baptized in 1646. [2] Conway-3024

I've removed the image as it's the wrong Penelope Wenman.

Is there any reason to think that she was born or married in Ireland? Her father's title was Viscount Wenman of Tuam, but he doesn't appear to have actually lived there, since he was returned for 6 parliaments in Northants and Oxon in the 1620s

Please see source #2. She was described in this document as "of the Kingdom of Ireland." That doesn't mean that she necessarily spent a lot of time there though.

Is there any evidence at all that she even set foot on Ireland? It certainly shouldn't be marked as certain. Especially considering the unreliability of that record - the marriage date is wrong, and Croft Castle is in Herefs, not Herts.

Agreed, the source is rather sketchy but it's the best I can do regarding records for Penelope. I've changed her birth place to uncertain.

Where did he return from in order to "returned for 6 parliaments," or is that a phrase to explain that he was elected or appointed.?
posted by Anna (Conway) Strutt
Returned means he won an election, not physically returning from anywhere.

Indeed, I realized the idiocy of my question immediately after I sent it.
