Biography

Anna Catharina Wetterhan married George Franck/Frank October 25, 1750 in St Paul Anglican Church, Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.[1] (Her birth name was Wetterhan as per her father's signature on the indebtedness list for the voyage. It apparently was written in an Anglicized version when the marriage was recorded. The family arrived on the "Ann" in 1750.)

The George Frank family in the 1770 Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia Census: Male 1, Boys 2, Women 1, Girls 4, Total 8. 2 born in Germany/Foreign. 6 born Americas.[2]

Research Notes

According to Bell's "Register of the Foreign Protestants of Nova Scotia", Vol 2, page 610 the family of Johannes Wetterhan arrived on the "Ann" in 1750. There were 5 paying passengers but we don't have a list of their names. Bell says his signature was clearly spelled "Wetterhan". Bell's notes list a marriage in 1750 of George Frank, and Anna Catharina Weatherhane (an English person obviously recorded that marriage) and in 1752 a marriage of John Adam Buhler (widow) and Maria Wetterhan. In the April 1753 victualing list, the names of only Anna Maria and Maria Elizabeth appear. Maria Elizabeth would be the wife of Buhler as it was common for a woman to remain on their family's victualling list for a time after marriage.

Therefore the George Frank's wife's first name was Anna, not Maria. We do not know what happened to Johannes or the other two unknown passengers. We also do not know where that John Adam Buhler came from - Bell has no one by that name.

The birth surname should be changed to Wetterhan. According to Bell's notes, that is clearly the spelling that her father signed on the Indebtedness list. The spelling "Weatherhane" was probably written by an English person when she married, and was obviously just a misspelling.
