Biography

Also known as Peter /Wiederwachs or Widderwax/ Peter /Widerwax or Weatherwax/ BURIAL: Online USGENWEB Rensselaer Co. NY; unknow file name; Printout date 1998, Weatherwax, Peter. b: no given, d: 1 May 1805 age 52y. BURIAL: USROOTSWEB, Rootsweb Rennselear County NY Cemetery Inscriptions (http://www.rootsweb.com/cemeteries: The Latham Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, Aug 2000), Peter Weatherwax. born (1752), died 1 May 1805, age 52y, buried Brookins Family section: county/state: Rensselaer, NY; notes Schaghticoke; (wife Catharina Cipperly). Hereinafter cited as RootsWeb Cemetery Records of Interments. BIOGRAPHY: Petrus (Peter), the firth son born to Johan Andreas & Johanna (Edeli) Weatherwax, was baptized 20 July 1752, in the Rihinebeck Reformed Duth Church, Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, NY. It is likely that Peter moved to Albany County, NY, with his family, in the late 1760's, and, it was there that he met and married Catherine Cipperly. The date for this marriage is approximated to be 1771/1772, because their first child was christened in 1773. Peter farmed with his family until the onset of the American Revolution, at which thime, he enlisted in the Albany County Militia and served int he 14th Regiment, under the Command of Lt. Col. Van Rennselaer. Peter served in this Regiment, along with his brothers, Davvid, Johannes, Alexander, jacob, and martin. Their half-brother, Andries, served wtih the 6th Regiment of Albany county Militia, and their cousin, Johan Wilhelm (William) served with teh Line of the First Regiment. Following his release from military service, Peter returned to Schaghticoke and farmed there the rest of his life. He inherited a part of John Andreas land in 1784, and died on that farm 01 May 1805. NOTE: You will see that all the of the children were baptized in the Gilead Lutheran Church, but because part of Albany County became Rennselaer County in 1791, the last 2 children were born in Rennselaer County. NOTE: The linkage between the Third and Fourth Generations has been established primarily by circumstantial evidence. However, there is enough documentation to permit the usage of this linkage for the purposes of this writing, evn though, I do not think that the D.A.R. would accept same. The available documentation is a book published in 1895, named "The Landmarks of Oswego County, NY." It contains the following: "Susan Eliza Weatherwax, 3-17-1815. Brother Edwin lived in Rennselaer County, also brother George, and Thomas - his wife Jane and hcildren martin, Martha, & Jane." There is documentation to prove that Susan Eliza was the daughter of Jacob Weatherwax and Anna Bork, therefore, Thomas may laso be their son. Additionally, we know that Jacob died in 1845 and that Thomas left New York in 1848. Ann (Bork) was listed as a widow in the 1850 Federal Census and was then residing in Troy, NY. We know that she died in Iowa on 13 January, 1875, and is buried in the Eden Cemetery, Benton County, Iowa, which is located only a few miles from the Thomas Weatherwax farm there. Thus, it can easily be assumed that she came to Iowa to spend her declining years with her oldest son. Rensslaer County, Cem. Weatherwax. Wayne writes, "This Peter Weatherwax, born 20 July 1752 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, NY, was one of the 19 children of the immigrant, Johann Andreas WIEDERWACHS (1700-1783). Peter died intestate. Peter married Catharina CIPPERLEY (ZIPPERLE), whose sister Helena CIPPERLY married my ancestor David WEATHERWAX (born in 1747). At least five of the nine brothers in the Weatherwax family served in the American Revolution, mostly in the 14th Albany Militia. Peter's grave is a DAR patriot site located in the town of Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, NY, on NY State Route 40 between Spiegletown and Melrose."

(Research done by Professional Researcher) Church Records in Dutchess & Columbia Co., NY

Petrus was born in 1752. He passed away in 1805.

Petrus (Peter) Weatherwax was baptized on 20 Jul 1752 in Rhinebeck Ref. Church. No date of birth is indicated in the church record. This land was originally part of his fathers farm. Peter died intestate abt 1 May 1805 based upon the Probate file in the Rensselaer county Surrogates office. He was the 2nd still recorded burial in Brookins Family cemetery, the first being Mary Follet bur:4 Jan 1876. It is possible that his Parents were also buried in the same location. His father Andreas Weatherwax d:1784. Andrea's son Martin inherited his fathers farm and sold the farm to James Brookins in 1792. It is quite possible that Andreas b:1700;d:1784 is also buried here in an unmarked grave.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
