Biography

Joseph Webb was born on 30 March 1654, Stamford, Connecticut.[citation needed]

According to Selleck, Joseph Webb was born 30 Mar 1636.[1]

He was married on 08 January 1672/73 ("11th Mo. 8, 1672", Old Style) [this could be interpreted as either the 11th day of mo. 8 or the 8th day of the 11th mo.] to Hannah Scofield[2] (b. 1653, Ipswich, Massachusetts), daughter of Richard Scofield and wife Elizabeth.[citation needed]

Waters gives Richard Scofield's wife as Mary.[3]

Children of Joseph and Hannah:[4]

  1. Joseph Webb, Jr., b. 5 Jan 1674, Stamford; d. 15 Nov 1743, Stamford; m. 23 Feb 1698, Mary Hoyt.
  2. Mary Webb, b. 14 Apr 1677, Stamford;[5] d. 1 Apr 1714, Stamford;[6] m. 23 Sep 1697, Daniel Weed.[7]
  3. Hannah Webb, b. 9 Jul 1679, Stamford;[5] d. 26 Jun 1723, Stamford;[6] m. 9 May 1711, Eleazer Slason.[7]
  4. Sarah Webb, b. 16 Oct 1681, Stamford;[5] d. 19 Oct 1706, Stamford.[6]
  5. Margery Webb, b. 4 Oct 1683, Stamford;[5] d. 2 jan 1736, Stamford;[6] m. 10 Aug 1716, Joseph Lockwood.[7]

Joseph died on 11 October 1698, Stamford, Connecticut.[citation needed]

"Joseph Webb, son of Richard and Elizabeth (Gregory) Webb, died in Stamford, Connecticut, March, 1693. He owned valuable property in Stamford, and was one of the most respected citizens of the town. He married June 8, 1672 [this is incorrect due to misinterpretation of pre-Gregorian calendar], Hannah Scofield, of Stamford."[4]

After Joseph died, Hannah is said to have married (2nd) to John Finch.[8]

In his will, written 15 Mar 1702/3, John Finch gives first to his "loving & most beloved son-in-law [meaning "son by law"] Joseph Webb, my feather bed & feather bolster & one pillow & one sheet & one couorled [coverlet] & one Great Chayr [chair] & one small iron pott, & one friing [frying] pan: also all my Right in ye land comonly called soqust Land." He also gave to his daughter-in-law [step-daughter] Sarah Webb "one sheets & one cotton pillow coat & one of Linnon: & all ye rest of my wooden household stuff & two earthon pots, & one earthon pichor [pitcher] & two spoones one of pewter & one of ocomy..." He doesn't mention his wife or any children.[9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Found a profile for daughter Mary (Webb) Weed, so I connected her to this profile. There are apparently two more children that need to be added, Hannah (Webb) Slason and Sarah (Webb) Hurlburt. Couldn't find profiles for them, so I guess profiles for them need to be created.

Webb-2693 and Webb-229 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents; same wife.

Loretta, I did not add these siblings. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a profile manager on the pages of those siblings. I also see there are 2 Johns that are listed to be only two years apart in age, then another John Webb that is listed as much younger.

A birth date should not be within eight months of a sibling's birth date unless they are twins born within a day of each other.

Webb-2694 and Webb-2725 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents and birth dates. Different death dates need more research, but merge could proceed.
