Martha Lucinda Webb was born on 3 October 1886 in McLeansboro, Hamilton, Illinois, United States to Elijah Everett Webb (1839-1908) and Sarah Violetta Leticia Munsel (1847-1930) as the third of their four children. This was the second marriage of both her mother and father. Her mother had been married first to James Brown (1841-1876) and her father had been married first to Hannah Jane Matlock (1847-1882).
