Biography

Oliver Webb (aka Richmond alias Webb) was the eldest son and heir of Edmond Richmond alias Webb and Katherine St John.[1][2][3][4][5]

He married Mary, daughter of Nicholas Fuller of Chamberhouse, Berkshire.[1][3]

The Inquisition Post Mortem for his father Edmond, was taken at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, on 25 Sept 19 James 1 (1621). It referred to his manor of Overraughton alias Wroughton which he had conveyed in 1613 to his son and heir Oliver, and to Oliver's wife, Mary, daughter of Nicholas Fuller, Esq. deceased. Edmund died on 26 March 17 James 1 (1619?) at Rodbourne Cheney, Wiltshire, and his son and heir Oliver Webbe was 38 years and upwards at the time of his father's death.[6][7]

Oliver was said to have died on '25 Mar 1635'[8] but as his will was proved 10 Feb 1634/1635[4] there is a problem with that date.

It appears that he had no surviving children.[4]

According to his Inquisition Post Mortem[8] Oliver's heir to the lands at Wroughton, Wiltshire, was his brother John Richmond alias Webbe.

Oliver Webbe was seised of the manor of Overtowne alias Overwroughton, lying in the parish of Wroughton alias Ellington ; and divers lands, tenements, and hereditaments, in Overwroughton, to the said manor belonging.

The IPM referenced an Indenture dated 10th April, 10 Charles I [1634], made between himself, by the name of Oliver Webbe alias Richmond, of the one part, and William Digges, gent., Edward Nicholas, gent., Benedict Browne, gent., and William Sadler, gent., of the other part. The Indenture referred to Edward Richmond alias Webbe, son and heir-apparent of John Richmond alias Webbe, brother of the said Oliver, and of Elizabeth Nicholas his former wife.
