Biography

Melvin "Ted" Webb Sr. was the son of Alexander Webb and Amanda Butcher. He was the paternal grandson of William Webb, Jr. and Isabelle Music and maternal grandson of Simon Peter Butcher and Clarinda Jane Webb.

He was a third cousin of Maybelle (Addington) Carter of the Carter Family.

Ted was the first husband of Clara Marie Ramey (daughter of Nathaniel Lewis Ramey and Sarah Elizabeth Blair). They were the parents of eight children; Melvin Webb, Jr., Loretta Webb Lynn, Herman Webb, Willie Lee Webb (a.k.a. Jay Lee Webb), Donald Webb, Peggy Sue Webb Wright, Betty Webb Hopkins and Brenda Gail Webb (a.k.a. Crystal Gayle).

Ted was a farmer and was employed as a coal miner in Van Lear, Kentucky.

When he became ill with Black Lung, he moved his family to Wabash Indiana, where he lived until he passed away, he is buried at Webb Butcher Cemetery at Van Lear KY.
