As read out on in Chapel, November 1, 1919 by Arthur Gray, Master, Jesus College, Cambridge.
“We are met today, at the first return since Peace, on All Saints Day, to call to remembrance those brothers of ours, who in the studies and playing-fields of the College, and in worship in this Chapel, learned those lessons of self-devotion which – at a call as Christian and English gentlemen they could not disobey – led them to surrender their lives and all that in life was beautiful and hopeful and dear. Dear to them the friends they had, and the happy prospect of a friendly world before them. And not least dear to them, in presence or remembrance, their College. We know that they have passed from death to life because they loved their brethren. With them, looking from beyond the shadow on our gathering here, we, in the words of the Collect, are knit together in one Communion and Fellowship in the mystical body of that Christ who loved His own in the world and unto the end. And with them we pray that we may share those unspeakable joys which are theirs, and shall be ours, if we follow the commandment, that he who loveth God love his brother also.”
