Research Notes

Rebecca is currently linked as the daughter of Richard Webb and Sarah (Nutley) Webb - however, Rebecca was born before they married and in a different location than any of their other children.

It seems more likely that she is the daughter of the Richard Webb & Sarah (Palmer) Webb who were married in Lyminge, Kent in 1806, and whose children were born in Hawkinge between 1808 and 1829 (Rebecca = Eliza Rebecca, christened in 1829, their youngest child). This Richard and Sarah seem to have passed away before the 1841 census.

Biography

Eliza Rebecca Webb, daughter of Richard & Sarah, was christened in Hawkinge on 5 Jul 1829.[1]

In 1841 Rebacca Webb (age 12) lived in Paddlesworth Village, Kent with her brother-in-law John Chester (25-29), sister Sarah Chester (20-24), and two nieces: Mary (3) and Sarah (1).[2] [Sarah Chester = Sarah Elizabeth Webb, christened in Hawkinge in 1815, who married John Chester in 1835.]

Rebecca Webb married Joseph Taylor in 1848. The marriage was registered in Elham, Kent in the last quarter of the year.[3]

Rebecca and Joseph had six children: Richard Taylor (1849-), Eliza Rebecca Taylor (1854-), William Taylor (1858-), Elizabeth Sarah Taylor (1860-), Minna Matilda (Taylor) Brown (1865-), and Mary Ann (Taylor) Denney (1870-1955).

In 1851 Rebecca Taylor (age 23) lived in Folkestone, Kent with her husband Joseph (25, Ag Lab) and son Richard (1).[4]

In 1861 Rebecca Taylor (age 33) lived at Mounts Court in Elham with her husband Joseph (36, Agricultural Labourer) and four children: Richard (11, Scholar), Eliza (6, Scholar), William (3), and Elizabeth S (0).[5]

In 1871 Rebecca Taylor (age 43) lived in Elham with her husband Joseph W (45, Agricultural Labourer) and four children: William (13, Scholar), Elizabeth S (10, Scholar), Minna M (5, Scholar), and Mary A (0).[6]

Rebecca Taylor passed away in 1874, aged 45 years. Her death was registered in Elham in the first quarter of the year.[7]
