Rudolph was a jack-of-all-trades, working at anything he needed to do to support his family. At one time or another, several of his brothers or sisters worked with him. He was, at various times, a carpenter, a painter, a blacksmith, a machinist, and made a good living building window and door screens (a relatively-new concept on homes around the turn of the century), to mention the most talked-about.
The family lived in a small, two-room house in Lower Downtown Denver, near the confluence of the South Platte and Cherry Creek Rivers, basically a slum at the time. The area today is very near the Pepsi Center (Denver Nuggets basketball and Colorado Avalanche hockey), Coors Field (Colorado Rockies baseball), and Elitch's Amusement Park (over 100 years old), and some of the most expensive real estate in Denver at the present time. What a difference a century can make! - Michael Thomas (Thomas-10705)
