Biography

Roland was born in 1921.[1] He was the son of Roland Weber and Elizabeth Cowan. Roland Jr. grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin, during his high school years. He served during WWII in the U.S.Marine Corps, 2nd Division. He enlisted on December 17, 1941, at Chicago and was sent to San Diego, California.

According to his Discharge, he "participated in action against the enemy" at Tarawa 20 Nov 1943 to 24 Nov 1943, Saipan 15 Jun 1944 to 9 Jul 1944, Tinian 24 Jul 1944 to 1 Aug 1944, and Okinawa 1 Apr 1945 to 6 Jul 1945.

After the war, he came back to California, having decided on Los Angeles instead of San Diego because he was used to big cities. He met his wife Eleanor when they were bowling with co-workers from the telephone company where they both worked. They were married in April 1951. They had three daughters. Roland passed away in 1981. [2]
