Biography

William Webster, son of Gov John Webster and Agnes ... married on 17 Feb 1670 to Mary Reeve, daug of Thomas Reeve of Springfield ... he was 53 yrs old at the time of his marriage and she probably some years younger ... [1] They had no children. William Webster and his brother Thomas early located in Massachusetts rather than in Connecticut as show by the fact that their father gave his lands in Hadley to these two sons. The estate of William Webster was administered upon 27 April 1688 and an inventory of the estate of his widow, Mary was filed 3 June 1698 ... These dates indicate the time period of their death.[2]

Given the dates we publish on this profile, this man appears to have been 55 not 53 when married. If we believe the cited claim (of 53) then one or both dates must be wrong: either his birth date/year, and or the marriage date/year.

Can the difference possibly be explained simple by new-style versus old-style calendar distortion, ie misunderstanding by the 19th century source? For example if he was born 26 Dec 1615 (not '14) and married 17 Feb 1669 (not '70) then that would be 53 years old at the wedding:

Do we have any insight into why William did not marry until he was ~55 years old?
