Daniel was born about 1643 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut to parents Jonas Weed and Mary Unknown. [1] Daniel was probably born at Stamford, but his birth was not recorded. Jonas Weed and family first settled at Watertown, then by 1635 at Wethersfield, and by 1642 at Stamford, Connecticut.[1]
Marriage
According to Anderson [1] Daniel married about 1675 Ruth _____. Anderson cites the 1976 Ancestry of Elizabeth Barrett Gillespie.
[2]
PETER Ferris and Mrs. Ruth Weed [Ruth Woods?, widow of Daniel Weed] were married on July 25, 1705.[3] When and by whom was the information in Brackets added?
An online version of the Barbour Collection reads: "Ruth, widow of Daniel, m. Peter Ferris, b. of Stamford, July 23, 1705, by Rev. John Davenport."[4] However, both the original Barbour list and the newer printed version imply that she was a widow, but do not say she was the widow of Daniel. "Mrs. Ruth Weed m. Peter Ferris, b. of Stamford, 23 July 1705, by Rev. John Davenport."[5][6] Peter Ferris Sr. died 28 Sep 1706 [4] (no probate at Ancestry). Mrs. Ruth Ferris m. John Clapp, 19 Jan 1707/8 by Rev. John Davenport.[4]
According to Jacobus[7] Daniel Weed m. Mary ____, who died 1 April 1714.
Widow Mary Weed died Apr. 1, 1714.[4] Question this: Jonas Weed, son of Jonas had a widow named Mary, who remarried a Firman. She died 31 March 1714. This is very coincidental. There is no death Record for Mary Firman, but she left a will.[7]
The probate of Daniel's estate does not help in solving this problem, since his widow's name was never given.
Property and Positions
Daniel lived at Rye, then considered part of Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony until about 1677, or about twenty years before his death, when he removed to Stamford.[citation needed] Daniel was a Deputy to the Connecticut Legislature Oct 1694, Oct 1695 and May 1696.[7]
The Reverend Elijah B. Huntington left a record "Registration Of Births, Marriages And Deaths Of Stamford Families" Stamford, April 6, 1797, which seems to be the main source for this era. It reads (or has been interpreted)
DANIEL Weed had
Abraham Weed, 18 years old, Aug. 18, 1698
Sarah Weed, 23 years old, Nov. 18, 1698
Daniel Weed, 13 years old, Mar. 19, 1698
Ebenezer Weed, 6 years old, Oct. 22, 1698
Nathaniel Weed, 2 years old, Oct. 22, 1698
Joseph Weed, born Aug. 18, 1698
David Weed, born Aug. 19, 1700
Joanna Weed, born Nov. 8, 1702
Daniel Weed, born May 14, 1705.
Looking at the list this way it is easy to misinterpret and name all nine children as children of this Daniel, but it is important to take into consideration that this Daniel died in 1697. The break takes place where the style changes. The first five were children of this Daniel and the following four were children of Daniel, son of John.
Sarah was born b 18 Nov 1675; m. 11 Aug 1698, Lt. David Waterbury
Abraham b. 18 Aug 1680; d. 26 Dec 1711; m. Widow Susanna Bell
Daniel died on 29 Nov 1697 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony.[8]
Daniel left four sons and a daughter when he died, "names are not found" writes Savage in 1860.[8] The probate file at Ancestry has only the inventory and an account.[9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
There are several children attached here that are instead children of a different Daniel. See the Biography for an explanation. I am going to disconnect them and move them to the proper Daniel.
