Waterbury

Joseph's father, John Weed, and family had removed from Derby to the Oxford Parish of Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1733, Joseph Weed was living near the top of Straits, at the same time that Job Pierson was on the same mountain (p 349).[4] In 1740, petitioners in the Waterbury woods: Isaac Trowbridge, the three brothers John, Jonas, and Joseph Weed, and Joseph Osborne wished to become one entire, distinct, ecclesiastical society (p 335).[4]

Simsbury

The family lived in the western portion of the town of Granby, near the West Branch of the Salmon Brook.[2] Joseph settled at Simsbury by 1757. On 29 August 1749, Joseph purchased from Timothy Moses, for £ 300, a 113 acre parcel: bounded on the south by land laid out by heirs of John Slater; bounded on the west by division land; on the north by a parcel owned by Josiah and Joel Case (with Joseph Case's house); and on the east by Josiah and Joel Case (formerly of John Humphrey). Timothy Moses was probably his brother-in-law, wife Deborah's step-brother. On 25 June 1763, he deeded a portion of that parcel to Josiah Case. On 8 January 1768, Joseph deeded the land "bought of Timothy Moses with house barn and orchards" to Elijah Tuller.[2]

Death and Legacy

Joseph died on November 30, 1771 at Simsbury, Hartford County, Connecticut.[2] His estate was inventoried on 13 January 1772 by Abel Gofard and Simeon Holcomb.[2] On 15th of October, 1772, the two daughters, Dorcas and Hannah, receiving £30 each as their shares of their father's estate. On May 1, 1778, each of the children signed a deed giving the remainder of their father's estate to their mother.
