Abraham Weeks was a Virginia colonist.

Origin

Abraham Weeks[1] was born about 1632.[2]

Marriages

Abraham married c. 1655 in Virginia to Millicent (Ledford) Weeks.[citation needed]

Children

Children of Abraham and Millicent:[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

  1. Katherine Weekes, bp. 15 Dec 166[1] Christ Church; m. Henry Williamson
  2. Francis Weekes, only son, b. ca. 1657; m. Elizabeth Hobbs
  3. Mary Weekes
  4. Lettice "Lettie" Weekes; m. 1st Matthew Lidford, 2nd William Montigue
  5. Elizabeth Weekes; m. 1st John Vauce, 2nd Caleb Wheeling, 3rd Thomas Spencer
  6. Margaret Weekes; m. John Collins

Positions

Abraham was among the vestry members for the Lancaster Parish (later Christ Church Parish for Lancaster and Middlesex Counties) on November the 19th, 1663, held at the home of Mr Henry Corbin.[10] Abraham also served as a Justice for the county of Lancaster in 1666.[4] He served as a judge for Lancaster County in 1668 beside other county notables like John Carter, David Fox, Raleigh Travers, John Curtis, Richard Perrott, William Ball and George Wale.[11] He served as a judge for Middlesex County on 10 March 1673, 10 July 1676, and on 22 August 1676 (pp 194, 196, 198).[12] Abraham was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses for Middlesex County in 1676-1677 and 1680-82.[13]

Land Record

ABRAHAM WEEKES, 450 acs. on S. side of Rappa. Riv., 26 May 1665, p. 175, (60). Bounded on S.E. with a cr. dividing this & land of Mr. Rowland Burnham, on N.W. with Wading Cr. dividing this from land of Richard Parott. 300 acs. by assignment from Mr. David Fox, 1 Nov. 1650 & 150 acs. added & granted sd. Weekes 22 Nov. 1653 and now renewed.[14]

This property was known as "Weekes Creek" and was sold on July 25, 1738 by Thomas Hobbs Weekes (Hobbs, Francis, Abraham), of the town and county of Southampton, England, Esq., to Richard Corbin, of Virginia, Esq.[4]

On June 30, 1688, Abraham Weekes of the county of Middlesex, gent. and Millicent his wife conveyed to Mr. Henry Williamson of Rappahannock County and Catherine his wife (daughter of the said Weekes) part of a tract of land, the remainder of which had been conveyed to Francis Weekes, son of said Abraham Weekes."[4]

Death and Legacy

Abraham's will was dated 20 January 1691/2 "aged about sixty years" and was proved 7 March 1691/2.[4] His legatees were: unnamed wife, son Francis, daughter Mary, daughter Letice Lidford, niece Katharine Collins, daughter Elizabeth Wheling, and son-in-law John Jones. Executors were: Mr. Matthew Lidford, Mr. Francis Weekes, Mr. Henry Williamson.[4][15]

He would have died between the above two dates.

Research Notes

According to the VMHB article, on January 3, 1703, "Mildred, widow of Abraham Weekes, gave power of attorney to her son, Henry Goodloe," authorizing him to acknowledge a deed to her son-in-law William Montague and Lettice his wife.[4] However this was an incorrect transcription; the original correctly read "Millicent, widow of ..." and "my loving friend," not "my loving son," Henry Goodloe.[16] This is confirmed by another power-of-attorney on 2 October 1703 executed by Millicent which reads, "I do hereby empower Henry Goodloe to appear for me in Middlesex Court there to acknowledge unto my dau. Mary Weeks and her son James, four Negro slaves ...."[16]

Common Errors to Avoid

Abraham Weekes was not a son of Francis Weekes and his wife Elizabeth as previously given. [17] [18] They have been disconnected as his parents.

Millicent Weeks...wife of Abraham Weeks was NOT a Goodloe! She was a Ledford.
posted by Margaret Baldock
My line shows my Weeks line as so:

Francis Weekes>Thomas Weekes>William Weekes sr>Samuel Joshua Weeks>Peter Holder Weeks>James Jefferson Weeks>James Joshua Weeks>Jesse James Weeks sr>Jesse James Weeks jr>Larry Weeks(my dad)

This profile shows up in my tree and I am pretty sure its an accurate ancestor, but I do not show up as a potential dna match for others to compare to as I do on more recent generations.

Anyone know why/how to fix?

Thomas Hobbs of St Clements, Mdsex, London will 13 Oct 1697 mentions wife Catherine; nephew Francis Weeks of Mdsex, VA, whose wife Elizabeth was nee Hobbs. Other nephews Thomas, Francis and Hobbs Weeks, son of Francis & Elizabeth. Sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Susanna Stanyan. Probate 20 Oct 1697.

Merge of Abraham complete. I don't feel like tackling the Millicents right now but maybe someone else will.

Looks like Mary's profile may need to be split, one to stay as dau. here and a new, disconnected one for wife of George Goodloe. (I'm going to see what I can dig up on the latter.)

Thanks. Abraham was not a son of Francis and Elizabeth Weekes and he has been disconnect as their son.

Link to parents should be removed (father only 9 years older, no apparent connection, no source).
