Abner was born in the late summer of 1821 to Abner Wellborn and Patsy Render. He married Georgia Ann Ray, daughter of John Ray and Bethenia Lavender, in the spring of 1852.[1] They had seven possibly eight, known children:[2][3][4]
1853-1854: Aurelius Wilkes, died in infancy (unsourced on FamilySearch)[5]
Only three of their children survived childhood: Corrinne, Susan, and Abner Ray. Of these three, only Susan is known to have married and had children.
Georgia passed away in 1887.[8] Abner lived another eighteen years, staying in lodging houses in Atlanta and continuing his work as a physician.[9] He passed away in 1905.[10] They are buried together with most of their children in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia.[11][12]
